Top Causes of Workplace Injuries in 2018
August 16, 2019The workplace is one of the reasons that people find themselves at an ER near them. Invariably, things happen at work, and accidents are sometimes unavoidable. But still, no one wants to see a fellow coworker or employee in the emergency room in Houston. Spending time at the emergency clinic also means a loss of work production along with a possible loss in revenue. Here are some of the leading causes of workplace injuries.
Slips, Trips, and Falls
These are the injuries that occur the most often, unfortunately. The biggest problem is when these injuries are worsened due to height. The best example of this is when someone is working on a ladder and accidentally slips off, hurting themselves on the landing. A key to avoiding these injuries is wearing the right footwear and having someone nearby who can spot you when you go to high up places. Being careful at all times is the way to avoid the slip, trip, and fall. These preventable injuries can save a lot of time, money, and revenue with that ounce of prevention.
Sprains and Strains
These injuries are more orthopedic. The sprain has to do with an injury to a joint while the strain has to do with damage to a muscle. There are a lot of ways that these can happen, but generally, they occur when someone is overextending what their body can do. The most common places where these injuries occur are in restaurants and the healthcare sector. Police and firefighters often have these injuries as well.
Burns and Scalds
These injuries are pretty self-explanatory, but one of the things that can create problems is how the burn originates. Chemical burns are much different than typical burns from a stove. The food industry is where these happen a lot.
Striking Injuries
Again, these are injuries that are just like what they sound like. When you get hit by another person or by an object, this is considered a strike injury.
